There are different overknee boots. There are really high overknee boots, smaller ones, with heels, without heels, with straps and laces and different colors. In this article I'm going to show you how to combine the original "black overknee boots" -with heels & flat ones - and where to get them.
We'll begin neutral; the black flat overknee boots.
These are from modemusthaves.com and I personally like the flat ones better. However, I would wear them the same way: with bare legs (the contrast is just better). A long tunic or oversized sweater in combination with a waterfall coat.
And then you have the overknee boots with a heel from asos.com (which can be very elegent, but that depends on how you wear them. Like the girls in the last photo collage):
